In memoriam (better late, than never...)
Dr. Albert Hofmann, Father of LSD, Dead at 102
Internet rumors of his passing have been confirmed for us by a friend of Dr. Hofmann's. Dr. Albert Hofmann died of a heart attack this morning at his home in Basel, Switzerland. Hofmann inadvertently discovered the effects of LSD while researching the substance in 1943. He subsequently self-administered the drug deliberately and produced the first accounts of its powerful psychedelic effects.
If you think 102 is old, just imagine how long he might have lived if he never did drugs!
Update: The above line is sarcasm.

Stand with Tibet - Support the Dalai Lama!
After decades of repression, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change. China's leaders are right now making a crucial choice between escalating brutality or dialogue that could determine the future of Tibet, and China.
We can affect this historic choice -- China does care about its international reputation. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get the government's attention. The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world's people to support him. Fill out the form below to sign the petition--and spread the word.
Petition to Chinese President Hu Jintao:
As citizens around the world, we call on you to show restraint and respect for human rights in your response to the protests in Tibet, and to address the concerns of all Tibetans by opening meaningful dialogue with the Dalai Lama. Only dialogue and reform will bring lasting stability. China's brightest future, and its most positive relationship with the world, lies in harmonious development, dialogue and respect.
Act now to end the violence:

APPEAL IN SUPPORT OF UYGHUR NONVIOLENT LEADER REBIYA KADEER
We undersigned Members of the European Parliament express our solidarity to the Uygur people, victim of the age-old oppression perpetrated by the Chinese regime in East Turkestan (Xinjiang region) and everywhere they are persecuted. In particular, we assert our support to Rebyia Kadeer, President of the Uygur World Congress, nonviolent leader and Member of the Nonviolent Radical Party, transnational and transparty, who served a six-year detention in Chinese jails and to her two sons Alim and Ablikim who are being detained for months. To seize the opportunity for a possible truce given by the incoming Olympic games and considering that the defence of human and political lights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the best radical tool to counter any form of terrorist aberration, we warmly call on the Chinese Government of the day to drop all accusations which criminalise an entire people and to respect effectively the Pact on Civil and Political Rights for the very Chinese citizens and for all the peoples of that live in China.

Radical Party - India - Tibet
13/03/2008 | Long March to Tibet: three Members of the Nonviolent Radical Party in India begin hunger strike to support more than 100 monks arrested.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dhera, India, 13 March 2008
• Statement by Matteo Mecacci, Sergio D’Elia e Marco Perduca, members of the radical delegation that has joined the march started last March 10th.
Today Indian authorities in the northern region of Kangra have arrested and jailed for 10 hours over 100 participants in "The Long March to Tibet". The demonstrators - mainly Tibetan monks - have all being condemned to 14 days of detention for having refused to sign a document stating that they would pledge not to continue their march. They are currently being held in the Yateri Niwas' detention centre.
According to a law which regulates the presence of foreigners in India, the demonstrators now risk up to 5 years of jail unless they sign the document mentioned above within the next 14 days.
The demonstrators have immediately gone on hunger strike in order to have the right to demonstrate respected and thus to continue their "Long March to Tibet". We have joined their hunger strike. It is likely that new initiatives will be taken within the next few hours.
For this reason we have decided to extend our stay in India, so that we will be able to keep track of this new, nonviolent initiative of our Tibetan friends.
