Death of jazz-legend

Freddie Hubbard, widely regarded as the most gifted jazz trumpeter of the post-bebop '60s and '70s, died Monday at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 70.

The cause of death was attributed to complications from a heart attack he suffered Nov. 26, according to Dave Weiss, his longtime manager.

- Why does it happen that all these people who were so thoroughly and publicly soul-fucked every day since they were born are so afraid to touch someone who was allegedly fucked up the ass?

- It's because they want to keep absolute anal virginity for their Lord, this is very important in their religion.

To our Congress.

Moscow's FREE RADICALS Libertarian Movement, an unofficial Russian branch of the Nonviolent Radical Party, celebrates this month its second anniversary and holds its Third Congress the day after tomorrow.

To tell you the truth, for Russian liberal and liberatrian activists it's not easy task to find a hall for their movements' gatherings and meetings. Kremlin's and local authorities makes all that only possible for preventing our Congresses. For example, recently radically oppositional all-Russian future "The Solidarity" Democratic Forces Movement have had a Congress of its Moscow Branch, that cold be held on three weeks earlier than it was: not in November, 23, but in November, 2. But earlier the concert halls owners were afraid of the possible and threatened future repressions from the authorities and rejected to organizers in the halls providing.

But our movement is not large, and we hope we'll have no problems (especially "in the last minutes") with the small hall or even room for our Congress.

My dear Gnostic friends,

I need your help.

Could you scan and send me by e-mail an introduction to the Pistis Sophia edition by George Horner (not G.R.S. Mead!) of 1924 ?

I need this material for the future intro to the Pistis Sophia Russian edition. My attempts to receive it in Russian and Finnish libraries were unsuccessful.

Beforehand thanks, -

The FIRST edition of St. Paul.

the revolutionary work of PAUL-LOUIS COUCHOUD (1928)-----Harnack followed the ecclesiastical authors without critically examining their assertions. He relied on them. If he had been aware of the fact that Irenaeus, Tertullian, Epiphanius could not have thought otherwise than they did without becoming heretic and that their opinion depended completely on their faith, he would have agreed that it made sense to take up the question once again and to handle the question with purely critical method. Yet critical investigation stands against the assumptions of the ecclesiastical authors. It shows as we will see, that the Apostolicon is not a mutilation of the long edition but, on the contrary, that the long edition is nothing but a reworked and extended Apostolicon. In other words, the text reconstructed by Harnack is the genuine edition of the Paulina. It is the oldest version available to us.

New Future UN Resolution Concerning Death Penalty.

UN. THIRD COMMISSION APPROVES NEW PRO-MORATORIUM RESOLUTION

November 20, 2008.
The Third Commission of the United Nations’ General Assembly approved, for the second consecutive year, the draft resolution on the 'Moratorium on the use of the death penalty.' 105 countries voted in favour, 48 against, with 31 abstentions. Compared to the resolution approved by the same commission in 2007, there was an increase of 6 favourable votes, a decrease of 4 votes against, and two less abstentions. "The UN vote records a positive trend towards the abolition of the death penalty around the world over the last ten years. It also rewards our efforts to end, through the moratoria, the aberration of a nation becoming Cain in order to defend Abel," Sergio D'Elia, Hands Off Cain Secretary, commented.

The resolution was introduced at the Assembly by the Chilean representative, under the name of a coalition or representative countries from all continents. There were 89 co-sponsors of the resolution this year, two more than the previous year. Countries for the death penalty presented 7 amendments. This included two affirming the principle of the internal sovereignty of nations, that if approved would have weakened the political strength of the text. They were all denied by a widening majority with respect to last year. In substance, the text (which is much more concise than the one in 2007) concentrated on the moratoria. It also relaunched the previous year’s resolution, favourably saluting the decision of countries that put into practice the moratoria. Reminding the Assembly of the global trend towards the elimination of the death penalty, the text welcomes the relevant Report by the Secretary General.

The definitive approval of the text by the General Assembly is scheduled for mid December, and the text establishes that the Assembly will return to discuss it within two years.

This Saturday

I've baptized in the Thelemic "Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica", as decided in September. Moscow's Thelemites from O.T.O.'s Pan's Asylum Camp and its Church are my good friends, and according to their invites I took part in the Gnostic Masses - during past 2 years every 3-4 weeks. Also I red and heard the lections in Moscow's Colledge "Thelema-93". So, now I'm a spiritual member of O.T.O.

At the same time, I'm staying, of course, a "strict" Gnostic and Gnostic texts' translator and researcher and as a member of classical Gnostic "Ecclesia Gnostica Russica" (created in Saint-Petersburgh not as a branch or a parish, but as a follower-in-common of the "Ecclesia Gnostica"; I was its co-ordinator since January until July, 2007). As I know, there are only two large esoteric organisations of Occultic type - Theosophical Society (including its Russian branch), and O.T.O., those position concerning their adept's membership in and studying of another Occultic and esoteric organisations \ traditions is completely positive.

Message of Radical MEP Marco Cappato to the World Congress "Right to Die" Participants.

Paris, November 2008
Dear Jean-Luc, dear Elke, dear Jacqueline, dear participants to the Right to Die - World Congress, Unfortunately, due to the Congress of Radicali italiani, which is happening exactly in the same days, we - as Nonviolent Radical Party, Radicali italiani and Associazione Luca Coscioni - cannot be with you in Paris today for your important Congress.

Nonetheless, we have been together some time ago for the conference that the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats has hosted in the European Parliament, entitled "Medically Assisted Dying and Euthanasia - a matter of human rights".

As you will recall, that conference has been an important moment from different perspectives: it was the first event of this relevance in the European Parliament, bringing together so many people from different countries and from different fields, from politicians to legal experts, from bio-ethicists to witnesses, from NGOs to citizens. We have discussed and analysed the situation in those States that have legalized euthanasia as well as in those that have not, and the respective consequences. We have evaluated legal reports underlining how assisted dying and euthanasia are in full conformity with Conventions on human rights. We have drafted a resolution / declaration going further, affirming that fully recognising the right to dignity leads to regulation and legalization of end of life decisions and euthanasia.

Your contribution to that conference has been fundamental. You have provided participants with your experience on the field of campaigning for the right to die in dignity, and you have provided us with suggestions on the declaration / resolution, which participants to the Conference have officially endorsed. At the same time we continue the campaign to get to a legal recognition of living wills and for the right to die in dignity. As you will imagine, we have as adversaries on this campaign in Italy the Vatican and their "representatives" in the Italian Parliament, both in the majority and in the opposition. Some important judicial developments have taken place, starting with the case of Piero Welby (our Co-President) and Eluana Englaro - but the regime and its representatives are still trying to block any change, including by taking jurdicial and legislative action. The public opinion is with us - and any support from international campaigners is welcome.

I believe that something that is needed, and on which the World Federation could be active, is to launch a network of legislators, Ministers, Political Party leaders, but also actors, directors, university professors at the international, European and national level, to bring together their energies for a European and international campaign, aimed at raising awareness and build public and political support for change.

Dear friends, we shall work together to do this. The work ahead of us is huge! I wish you, together with my friends from the Nonviolent Radical Party and the Association Luca Coscioni I have the honour to chair, to have a productive conference and lets' campaign together on medically assisted dying and euthanasia - which is first of all a matter of human rights!

Regards, Marco Cappato, MEP, Nonviolent Radical Party, Luca Coscioni Association

Radicals Deputies of E.U. Pannella and Cappato: THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ASKS TO STOP VIETNAM'S WAR AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS.

Brussels, 22nd October 2008

With 479 votes in favour and only 21 against the European parliament adopted the Resolution put forward by the Radical MEPs Marco Cappato and Marco Pannella on the EU-Vietnam relations. In the document approved today, the European parliament asks the European Commission not to sign any agreement before the Vietnamese counterpart complies and respects the following conditions:

- A guarantee to the United Nations of an unfettered access to the entire country, including the central and northern highlands, where the Montagnard people live;

- The release of all of the political prisoners, including 300 Christian Montagnards as well as Khmer Krom Buddhist Monks, Human Rights activists, authors of petitions on land property, cyber-dissidents, trade unions leaders, catholic priests and members of the Hoa Hoa Buddhist church and the Cao Dai religion;

- To quash the house arrest sentence inflicted to Tich Quang Do, Supreme Patriarch of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, and to the Kmer Krom monk Tim Sakhorn;

- To allow independent religious organisations to freely exercise their activities; to give back the ecclesiastic properties and pagodas which have been confiscated by the Vietnamese government and to restore the juridical status of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam;

- To abrogate the Vietnamese legislation dispositions which persecute any dissent and the exercise of certain religious activities.

Cappato and Pannella stated: “With its vote, the Parliament asks the Commission and the Council to respect its own European legality, which stipulates that all commercial agreements be subordinated to the Human Rights clause. The Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty commits to make sure that this vote will be observed. We will also inform the Italian Government about the seriousness of this situation and about the necessity to act immediately by means of official statements and actions”.

Censorship. Version 2.0. Analysis of Radio Free Europe \ Radio Liberty

NEW YORK -- Sergei Kuznetsov, who founded one of Russia's first blogs in the early 1990s, was recently approached with an offer from a company affiliated with the Kremlin.

The company, whose name he did not reveal, presented a budget of millions of rubles to be used exclusively for public relations in the world of Russian blogs. Kuznetsov had the influence and the technical skills, and the government evidently had the interest.

Kuznetsov's situation is not unique in today's Russian Internet, or RuNet.

The second fastest-growing national cyberspace in the world, it has nearly 4 million blogs and counting -- which means an increasing opportunity for dissenting voices and pluralism of opinions.

But the co-opting of prominent bloggers and leaders of online-based political movements exemplifies the Kremlin's use of "soft," or indirect power to counter the Internet's democratizing potential, says Robert Saunders, a member of russian-cyberspace.org, an online scholarly research group focusing on the Russian Internet.

Radical Party activists continues a campaign for the defence of Tarek Aziz' life.

October 11, 2008: Radical leader Marco Pannella held a press conference with lawyer Mario Lana at Montecitorio regarding Tarek Aziz, Saddam Hussein's ex Foreign Affairs Minister. Aziz has been detained in Iraq since 2003 and is at risk of being sentenced to death. Lana met the ex Iraqi Foreign Affairs Minister many times and collaborated with him in Iraq.

'Tareq Aziz has only known the charges against him since 2007: being complicit in the so called Friday Mosque attack and the massacre of Iraqi merchants,' Lana explained.

But what worries the lawyer is a new charge that will cause a third trial. 'Last weekend a new charge of complicity in the deportation of the Kurdish population was formulated. It is a very serious charge that, if confirmed, could result in a death sentence,' Lana said.

'They are war crimes or crimes against humanity, which according to past experience should be judged by an international or at least mixed tribunal. Aziz has been denied this,' Lana emphasised.

It is in this context that 'Hands Off Cain' commits to its campaign for Aziz. Pannella said the campaign to prevent Saddam Hussein's execution was 'a gamble but not a failure,' and now he is fighting against time to save Tarek Aziz's life.
'We've already had a victory with the intervention of Lana and the mobilisation of public support. We have remembered a man that everyone left to die,' Pannella observed.

Aziz has been held since 2003 in Camp Propper, an Iraqi jail under American control.

Broadcasting Board of Governors
330 Independence Avenue SW

October 3, 2008

Dear Board Members:

It is with concern and bewilderment that we have learned of the plans by the Broadcasting Board of Governors to reduce broadcasts of the Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty Russian service from January 1, 2009.

As you know, in recent years the Russian government has established a near-total control over national broadcasters. Russian citizens no longer have access to objective political information. Opposition leaders are barred from the airwaves, and only government-approved views are presented. Just last month Radio Ekho Moskvy, the last remaining major independent outlet, came under pressure from Prime Minister Vladimir Putin over its coverage of the war with Georgia.

It is difficult to understand why, in such a context, the BBG would wish to reduce the Russian broadcasts of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, which provides a rare voice of independence for hundreds of thousands of Russian listeners.

The official explanation that funds will be transferred to RFE/RL Russian-language website makes little sense, since government censorship in Russia affects mostly television and radio, while the internet is independent. In addition, the majority of Russians do not have access to the internet.

We express our hope that you will reconsider this decision.

For Tibet!

The "Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty" and the "Italian Radicals" joined officially the nonviolent initiative promoted by the Tibetan Government in exile.

FOR TIBET!

The “Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty” and the “Italian Radicals” joined officially the nonviolent initiative promoted by the Tibetan Government in exile. For the first time, the Tibetan authorities in exile in Dharamsala, India, have suggested to the Tibetan diaspora, to the Tibetan living in China and to all the supporters of their struggle, an extraordinary, coordinated mobilization. On Saturday, August 30th anybody who wants show his own support for the Tibetans and for the Dalai Lama Nonviolent struggle, have been encouraged by the Tibetan Prime Minister, Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, to observe a symbolic 12-hour long fasting. The Fasting shall be observed from 7/8 a.m. till 7/8 p.m. for 12 hours. The President of the Tibetan Government in Exile asks to observe fasting, silence, meditation and prayers, but he also encourages to spread information to support the cause of Free Tibet, to urge the choice of a dialog and the need to say the truth on a regime which, for 60 years, has been occupying and repressing the so called “ Roof of the world”.
This morning, trough a letter signed by Marco Pannella, Marco Perduca, Matteo Mecacci and Maurizio Turco, the Nonviolent Radical Party informed the President Samdhong Rinpoche, located in Dharamsala that the Radicals will give their support, once again, to the Tibetan authorities by adhering to their initiative.
By adhering, the leaders of the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty stressed the importance of the active nonviolent initiative, promoted and coordinated for the first time by the top democratic leaders of the Tibetan Government in exile in India , and they reiterated their willingness to support their proposals for autonomy. Furthermore, they reaffirmed the opportunity to make public, preemptively, the plan which is going to be submitted to the Chinese Authorities by a delegation which will be sent in October to Beijing from the Dalai Lama.

We ask you, this time, to join not only us, but the whole Tibetan Community.

TIBET: message from Marco Pannella to the Tibetan militants on a thirst-strike in India.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Unfortunately, I just saw the news today that was announced on August 4 that a number of marchers on their way to Tibet have undertaken a thirst and hunger-strike.”
In our urgency, we have sent this message to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and the Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile.
We invite all to translate this message into Tibetan, Chinese, Uyghur, Montagnard, Cechen, Laotian, Vietnamese, Birmese and Esperanto (and any other languages) and to forward it.
Dear Comrades in the struggle for hope and idealism,
I just read that you have reached the fourth or fifth day in a thirst-strike in your effort to give voice, body and strength to your response of nonviolence, that is, the love of truth, because even those who may allude to the use of violence is reached by your hope and faith and an affirmation of the life-choice of freedom and compassion.
I wish to beg of you to never forget, today and always, that nonviolence means risking life not death. Every death is a defeat, every death in our struggle as well as those which are certain from life’s inertia represent a painful defeat for us.
We must absolutely avoid falling into the temptation of hurling our bodies as a weapon against our “enemy.” The distorted use of nonviolence, especially in the West, has led to this error where striking out with our own bodies against our aggressors transforms them into murderers. We must know and remember that every martyr, each martyr has a human cost matched by that of the assassin that we have inadvertently created. The opposite is true, however, of our honourable pacifism but never passivity, armed with nonviolence and compassion.
Despite my very different personal history, I feel that, more and more, Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is perhaps our greatest spiritual, that is to say vital treasure. For me, it is what is meant when we refer to “soul.”
I am also convinced that His Holiness the Dalai Lama can or could have made political mistakes with his government. At least as far as I can discern from his own statements regarding reforms that he has imagined over the last ten years for a liberated Tibet, not only from its violators, its occupiers, but also regarding the harmonious balance between science and nature in respect to the Earth, politics, and Humanity.
I think I understand, as I’ve had the honour and love of being heard and listened to by Him even in criticisms, that even this Master remains well aware that understanding and acting on prophetic signs are steps to be taken with the gentlest, most cautious care and love.
With these thoughts, with this struggle like that carried out by us at the Nonviolent Radical Party with our comrades and our Uyghur, Mongol, and Montagnard comrades and those oppressed peoples in Vietnam, Laos, Birmania, Chechnya, and North Korea, we are all beginning to better understand that the struggle for Tibet, along with all the others in the territories of the far East and those not so far, is also a conscious struggle for a Free China.
Our very force excludes caving in to desperation, to anger, to scourn and the blindness of rage, to cruelty, to the violence of the powerful, for millenium the embodiment of madness induced by the impotence provoked by illusions of violence. These are the thoughts at the heart of our Party and you inspire us. You have our gratitude and you are our hope, even though you may lose hope yourselves sometimes, and, for this, now and tomorrow, I will continue to lay myself out besides you and implore you: never choose death, never die for a lack of prudence and hope, for anger and hate against those who oppress you and want your deaths, the end of what we are and for what we hope.
Even in a thirst-strike, we are responsible for all good and all bad, of all life and all death, with which we will ultimately create. I await your reply with faith, love and strength. For today, for these hours and these days so common, but also for the rest of our lives and our nonviolent struggle. I truly hope that this reaches all of you, without exception, alive, and with this opportunity to grow together in the strength of the truth and nonviolence.

Georgian ambassador had a speach in the UN.

Mister President, distinguished members of the Security Council. Let me express gratitude for you for this chance to address Security Council. Today’s special session of the Security Council is elaboration(?) on grave escalation of the situation in Tshenvali region of Georgia. First of all, I will reflect on recent events that have led to this tragic deterioration.

On August 1, at about 8 AM Tbilisi Time pickup vehicle of the Georgian police officers was hit by two remote control devices. As a result of that attack 5 Georgian policemen were severely wounded. The central authorities decided not to retaliate in order to not to escalate the situation.

On August 2, 6 civilians and one Georgian policeman were injured after the shelling of Georgian villages in South Ossetia conflict zone overnight. The seven Georgian controlled villages came under intense fire from the South Ossetian separatists with large caliber mortars. Georgian law enforcement shot back defensively for some time but then received an order to cease fire in order not to escalate the situation.

On August 3rd, South Ossetian separatists’ government announced the evacuation of more than five hundred people including 400 children. However, Deputy Prime Minister of Russians North Ossetian Republic told the Interfax news agency that it was not an evacuation. Sending children to North Ossetia was part of prearranged summer camp program, as he explained. Russian media outlets started a massive propaganda campaign against Georgia.

On August 6, late, separatists opened mortar fire at Georgian populated villages of Eredvi, and other 4 villages. Georgian government forces fired back in order to defend the positions of civilian population. As a result of intense crossfire during the night two servicemen of Georgian battalion of joined peacekeeping forces were injured. Separatists’ regime also claimed several injured persons on their side. Despite the targeted attacks on a peaceful population and villages as well as on the Georgian police and the peacekeeping forces the central authorities decided not to respond through heavy exchange of fire in order not to injure the local population. Tem??? ???shvili, Georgian chief negotiator and Minister for Reintegration said in a late night television remarks on the August 6 that it was a position of Georgian government that only direct dialog with Tshenvali authorities would solve the deteriorating security situation. Mister Jacubosvili also stressed that ambassador at large Jury Popov would attend the talks as a facilitator. South Ossetia’s chief negotiator Boris Chuchev refused to take part in this negotiations.

On August 7, during the night intensive fire came from Ossetian villages from four different positions. Separatists’ authorities continued shelling Georgian law enforcement and peacekeeping units with mortars and artillery. The central authorities responded with limited fire in order to defend these positions. In the morning interview with the Russian news agency South Ossetian de-facto president Eduard Kokoity declared that if the Georgian government would not withdraw military forces from the region he would start “to clean them up”. The President Saakashvili in speaking with the journalists in the military hospital in Gory where he was visiting injured Georgian servicemen said that despite attacks on the Georgian villages Tbilisi was showing maximum restrain. President also called on Russia to recall its officials from South Ossetia who consider themselves as so called South Ossetian government. Temur Jacubashvili who visited the conflict zone in the morning of August 7 to meet with the representatives of separatist’s government. The stated minister met with Marat Kulahmetov the commander of the joint peacekeeping forces in Tshinvali. But again separatists refuse to negotiate with him. The chairman of the separatists’ republic Security Council Parankevich threatened the armed grouping of Cossacks from the North Ossetia were headed toward South Ossetia to fight against Georgian forces. Separatists resumed shelling of Georgian villages by 16:00 the same day. Three Georgian servicemen were injured after the South Ossetian separatist forces blew up an infantry combat vehicle belonging to the Georgian peacekeeping battalion. Georgian police responded by firing towards the separatists armed grouping in the respected villages, where two separatist militiamen were killed and two more wounded. Later the checkpoint of Georgian peacekeepers was bombed in Abnevi and several Georgian servicemen and civilians were killed. President Saakashvili said in a live televised address made at 7:10 PM that he had ordered the Georgian forces to ceasefire in South Ossetia. He said there were casualties both dead and many people wounded. Saakashvili said that he ordered to cease fire on purpose to offer again to South Ossetia secessionists’ regime to resume talks. Despite Georgian decision not to return fire the Georgian village of Avnevi came under fire from Ossetian militia men at about 8:30 PM. It can be said that the village is totally destroyed as the result of this attack. The South Ossetian separatists’ armed groupings fired Georgian control villages of Prici at about 10:30 PM last night. The attack left several people wounded on the Georgian side. The same separatists’ authorities opened fire at all Georgian positions around the South Ossetia capital Tshinvali at about 23:30 last night including the villages of Tamarasheni and Kurta. The police station in Kurta was destroyed totally as a result of this heavy fire.

Excellencies, I want to state very clearly. The Russian Federation security and defense agencies have control and direction of illegal separatists’ authorities and armed formations. Numerous high ranking Russian officers from among the ranks of peacekeepers as well as others from the Russian military officials’ intelligence and law enforcement are serving in senior roles in Tshinvali. This is a clear violation of Russia’s obligations to remain neutral instead they have become the party of the conflict. These Russian officers and individuals include

Mr. Jury Morozov, the Prime Minister, born in Russian Federation. Before his appointment in the government in the South Ossetia in 2005, he was occupying different positions in Bashkiria.

Minzaev. The Minister of Internal Affairs from 2005. Colonel of Russian police. In 2004 during the counter-terrorist operation in Beslan was leading FSB special unit Alfa.

Anatoliy Barankevich. From 2006 Secretary of National Security Council of South Ossetia. Colonel of the Russian military forces. He has participated in Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in both Chechen wars.

Boris Atoev. Chairman of Committee of State Security (analog of KGB) since 2006, previously was holding different positions in Soviet KGB. After accomplishment of mission in Afghanistan he was appointed in the central apparatus of FSB in Moscow.

Vasiliy Lunev, Minister of Defense Of South Ossetia since March 2008. General of Russian army.

Vladimir Kotoev. Head of the Government Protection Service from 2007, colonel of Russian Army, participating in Chechen and Bosnian wars.

Ale(?) Chebodarev. Head of the State Border Protection since 2005, colonel of Russian FSB.

These individuals were granted impunity by Russian Federation from being held responsible for atrocities they have been committing .

Excellencies, the government military action was taken in self-defense. After repeated armed provocations and with the sole goal to protecting civilian population and preventing from loses of lives of population coming from the various ethnic backgrounds. We believe every democratic country would have reacted in similar fashion to protect their own citizens. Government acted because the separatists not only defied the ceasefire but sharply escalated violence, killing several peacekeepers and civilians within the hours of the ceasefire. Additional illegal forces were and are entering Georgian territory from the Russia through the Rocky tunnel threatening even worse violence. The separatists were also continuing to threaten to attack other parts of the country outside the South Ossetian region allegedly with the foreign assistance which is flowing into that region. Russian peacekeepers told Georgian officials they are unable to control separatists. Security situation was deteriorating and violence increasing rapidly. The separatists were not heeded for any appeal for the direct talks. Georgian six negotiating solution in the conflict with international engagement are offer of autonomy along European standards still there. With international guarantees including an elected regional parliament, elected regional president, sheer (?) sovereignty and protection of South Ossetian identity, culture and language are still on the table. Until such a solution is agreed the region, we think, should be governed by the elected head of South Ossetian administration Dmitry Sanakoev, an ethnic Ossetian and former separatists’ leader. We invite Russia to constructively engage in an economic rehabilitation as well as to contribute to the agreed security arrangements of the region. Government immediate goals at this point are to restore peace and to facilitate the return of normal life for all regional residents and allow the return of refugees and peace. We stand ready to ensure adequate supply of water, electricity, food, emergency, services, medical care, and shelter. Separatists’ leaders will be allegeable for amnesty. Humanitarian organizations will have an access to the region and Georgian government already has allocated funding totally 2 million euros to immediate humanitarian and emergency needs of that region.
Excellencies, by verified reports, as well as we speak, now huge contingency of military personnel and equipment are illegally entering Georgian sovereign territory through the Rocky tunnel. Russian Federation’s republic of North Ossetia declared the mobilization of armed mercenaries to be sent to Georgia. There are disturbing signs that we are facing the calculated provocation to escalate the situation to justify preplanned military intervention from Russian side. So we demand from the Russian Federation to prevent transit of armed mercenaries to Georgia, to exercise their influence to the separatists’ regime to stop attacks on the civilian population and start negotiations. As in my last address to this high forum I want to reiterate call to international community to explicitly condemn continuous infringements of the Georgian sovereignty and territorial integrity by the Russian Federation. Despite this most recent escalation I want to emphasize the Georgian government once again calls and shows its readiness to immediately begin peace talks for resolving the conflict in the South Ossetia and calls on the separatist rebels to cease their military actions and come to negotiating table.
Thank you very much.

Moratorium on the death penalty also for Tareq Aziz. Sign the Radical's petition!

Moratorium on the death penalty also for Tareq Aziz.

Since Sunday 6 July 2008, Marco Pannella - Member of the European Parliament and President of the Nonviolent Radical Party - has been on a hunger strike to halt the anticipated death sentence and immediate execution of former Iraqi Minister Tareq Aziz, number two in Saddam Hussein's decades-long regime.

After the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Resolution on the "Moratorium on the use of the death penalty" on 18 December 2007, hundreds of parliamentarians representing a broad political spectrum, Nobel laureates and other outstanding personalities worldwide have joined in support of the nonviolent action and adhered to the Appeal for a "Moratorium on the death penalty also for Tareq Aziz".

APPEAL

A bogus trial is currently underway in Iraq, which most probably will result in a death sentence for Tareq Aziz, number two in Saddam Hussein's decades-long criminal regime.

In his trial, Tareq Aziz, a Chaldean Christian, has been denied due legal process. He was left without a defence council after his Iraqi lawyer fled the country fearing assassination - as happened to Saddam Hussein's lawyer - and was denied the legal assistance offered by foreign lawyers.

Following the extraordinary nonviolent initiative of parliamentarians, institutional actors and the wider public which resulted in the adoption of the "Universal moratorium on the use of the death penalty" on 18 December
2007, we, the undersigned, demand consistency with this historic achievement and call for a: "Moratorium on the death penalty also for Tareq Aziz".

This appeal is not “merely” a humanitarian plea, but aims at a specific, concrete and targeted political objective: the defence of the rule of law and of the truth, the defence of legality and justice in Iraq. Halting the
upcoming death sentence and execution of Tareq Aziz, which - we reiterate - risk occurring without there having been a fair trial, would mark a clear departure from the methods and practices of Saddam's era and would ensure truth and justice for all victims of his regime, and not only for victims of the crimes for which Aziz is being tried.

In memoriam (better late, than never...)

Dr. Albert Hofmann, Father of LSD, Dead at 102

Internet rumors of his passing have been confirmed for us by a friend of Dr. Hofmann's. Dr. Albert Hofmann died of a heart attack this morning at his home in Basel, Switzerland. Hofmann inadvertently discovered the effects of LSD while researching the substance in 1943. He subsequently self-administered the drug deliberately and produced the first accounts of its powerful psychedelic effects.

If you think 102 is old, just imagine how long he might have lived if he never did drugs!

Update: The above line is sarcasm.

Stand with Tibet - Support the Dalai Lama!

After decades of repression, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change. China's leaders are right now making a crucial choice between escalating brutality or dialogue that could determine the future of Tibet, and China.

We can affect this historic choice -- China does care about its international reputation. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get the government's attention. The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world's people to support him. Fill out the form below to sign the petition--and spread the word.

Petition to Chinese President Hu Jintao:

As citizens around the world, we call on you to show restraint and respect for human rights in your response to the protests in Tibet, and to address the concerns of all Tibetans by opening meaningful dialogue with the Dalai Lama. Only dialogue and reform will bring lasting stability. China's brightest future, and its most positive relationship with the world, lies in harmonious development, dialogue and respect.

Act now to end the violence:

APPEAL IN SUPPORT OF UYGHUR NONVIOLENT LEADER REBIYA KADEER

We undersigned Members of the European Parliament express our solidarity to the Uygur people, victim of the age-old oppression perpetrated by the Chinese regime in East Turkestan (Xinjiang region) and everywhere they are persecuted. In particular, we assert our support to Rebyia Kadeer, President of the Uygur World Congress, nonviolent leader and Member of the Nonviolent Radical Party, transnational and transparty, who served a six-year detention in Chinese jails and to her two sons Alim and Ablikim who are being detained for months. To seize the opportunity for a possible truce given by the incoming Olympic games and considering that the defence of human and political lights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the best radical tool to counter any form of terrorist aberration, we warmly call on the Chinese Government of the day to drop all accusations which criminalise an entire people and to respect effectively the Pact on Civil and Political Rights for the very Chinese citizens and for all the peoples of that live in China.

Radical Party - India - Tibet

13/03/2008 | Long March to Tibet: three Members of the Nonviolent Radical Party in India begin hunger strike to support more than 100 monks arrested.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dhera, India, 13 March 2008

• Statement by Matteo Mecacci, Sergio D’Elia e Marco Perduca, members of the radical delegation that has joined the march started last March 10th.
Today Indian authorities in the northern region of Kangra have arrested and jailed for 10 hours over 100 participants in "The Long March to Tibet". The demonstrators - mainly Tibetan monks - have all being condemned to 14 days of detention for having refused to sign a document stating that they would pledge not to continue their march. They are currently being held in the Yateri Niwas' detention centre.
According to a law which regulates the presence of foreigners in India, the demonstrators now risk up to 5 years of jail unless they sign the document mentioned above within the next 14 days.

The demonstrators have immediately gone on hunger strike in order to have the right to demonstrate respected and thus to continue their "Long March to Tibet". We have joined their hunger strike. It is likely that new initiatives will be taken within the next few hours.

For this reason we have decided to extend our stay in India, so that we will be able to keep track of this new, nonviolent initiative of our Tibetan friends.

Oh, my God, how I hate this fuckin' Soviet Fatherland!

Russian police, like it was in Soviet times, recently de-facto announced a war against young people (punks, goths, hippies and so on) who looks not like ordinary men and women on our streets and in public places. Such young people permanently being arrested for so-called "anti-social clothes and behaviour" and fixed in the special rogues galleries of many police districts in Moscow and, probably, also other cities of this fucking state.

Putin's Russia often pretends to be called in the West as a "democratic state with an uniqual way of development". You must know, my dear readers, that it is lie. Russia becomes more and more fascistic and neo-Soviet state at one time - step by step and month by month, and this process became more active since so-called "presidential elections" (March, 2nd). I'm announcing (as I did it many times in my Russian blog at Livejournal.com) that I hate this fucking state and its repressive orders. I hate the authorities of this state and its flock of sheep who pretends to be called "citizens", but keep the silence (or strightly supports the authorities) about sovetization and fascization of this fucking, mad state.

IRAN. RADICALS MOBILISED TO SAVE TWO GAY YOUTHS.

February 12, 2008: the International mobilisation to save two youths
sentenced to death in Iran for homosexuality continues.

In only a few days more than 12,500 people have signed the petition
(www.petitiononline.com/irangay) to the Iranian authorities to save the
lives of Hamzeh Chavi and Loghman Hamzehpour.
The two boys, 18 and 19 years old, were arrested in Sardasht, in
Azerbaijan Iran, on January 23, 2008, charged with "mohareb" and "lavat"
(being an enemy of Allah and sodomy). They confessed, under torture, to
being in love and now risk being executed.

The Transnational and Transparty Nonviolent Radical Party, with
Hands Off Cain, have joined the EveryOne Group initiative. A letter was
sent to Abolfazl Zohrevand, the Ambassador in Italy to the Islamic
Republic of Iran, asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the case of the two
youths that has provoked outrage around the world, as well as concerns
over the current violation of human rights in Iran.

Old, but important article in the NYT about... no, around Coptic Gnostic "Gospel of Judas".

Gospel Truth

By APRIL D. DECONICK, Houston, Texas.

Published: December 1, 2007

AMID much publicity last year, the National Geographic Society announced that a lost 3rd-century religious text had been found, the Gospel of Judas Iscariot. The shocker: Judas didn’t betray Jesus. Instead, Jesus asked Judas, his most trusted and beloved disciple, to hand him over to be killed. Judas’s reward? Ascent to heaven and exaltation above the other disciples.

It was a great story. Unfortunately, after re-translating the society’s transcription of the Coptic text, I have found that the actual meaning is vastly different. While National Geographic’s translation supported the provocative interpretation of Judas as a hero, a more careful reading makes clear that Judas is not only no hero, he is a demon.

Several of the translation choices made by the society’s scholars fall well outside the commonly accepted practices in the field. For example, in one instance the National Geographic transcription refers to Judas as a “daimon,” which the society’s experts have translated as “spirit.” Actually, the universally accepted word for “spirit” is “pneuma ” — in Gnostic literature “daimon” is always taken to mean “demon.”

Likewise, Judas is not set apart “for” the holy generation, as the National Geographic translation says, he is separated “from” it. He does not receive the mysteries of the kingdom because “it is possible for him to go there.” He receives them because Jesus tells him that he can’t go there, and Jesus doesn’t want Judas to betray him out of ignorance. Jesus wants him informed, so that the demonic Judas can suffer all that he deserves.

Perhaps the most egregious mistake I found was a single alteration made to the original Coptic. According to the National Geographic translation, Judas’s ascent to the holy generation would be cursed. But it’s clear from the transcription that the scholars altered the Coptic original, which eliminated a negative from the original sentence. In fact, the original states that Judas will “not ascend to the holy generation.” To its credit, National Geographic has acknowledged this mistake, albeit far too late to change the public misconception.

So what does the Gospel of Judas really say? It says that Judas is a specific demon called the “Thirteenth.” In certain Gnostic traditions, this is the given name of the king of demons — an entity known as Ialdabaoth who lives in the 13th realm above the earth. Judas is his human alter ego, his undercover agent in the world. These Gnostics equated Ialdabaoth with the Hebrew Yahweh, whom they saw as a jealous and wrathful deity and an opponent of the supreme God whom Jesus came to earth to reveal.

Whoever wrote the Gospel of Judas was a harsh critic of mainstream Christianity and its rituals. Because Judas is a demon working for Ialdabaoth, the author believed, when Judas sacrifices Jesus he does so to the demons, not to the supreme God. This mocks mainstream Christians’ belief in the atoning value of Jesus’ death and in the effectiveness of the Eucharist.

How could these serious mistakes have been made? Were they genuine errors or was something more deliberate going on? This is the question of the hour, and I do not have a satisfactory answer.

Admittedly, the society had a tough task: restoring an old gospel that was lying in a box of its own crumbs. It had been looted from an Egyptian tomb in the 1970s and languished on the underground antiquities market for decades, even spending time in someone’s freezer. So it is truly incredible that the society could resurrect any part of it, let alone piece together about 85 percent of it.

That said, I think the big problem is that National Geographic wanted an exclusive. So it required its scholars to sign nondisclosure statements, to not discuss the text with other experts before publication. The best scholarship is done when life-sized photos of each page of a new manuscript are published before a translation, allowing experts worldwide to share information as they independently work through the text.

Another difficulty is that when National Geographic published its transcription, the facsimiles of the original manuscript it made public were reduced by 56 percent, making them fairly useless for academic work. Without life-size copies, we are the blind leading the blind. The situation reminds me of the deadlock that held scholarship back on the Dead Sea Scrolls decades ago. When manuscripts are hoarded by a few, it results in errors and monopoly interpretations that are very hard to overturn even after they are proved wrong.

To avoid this, the Society of Biblical Literature passed a resolution in 1991 holding that, if the condition of the written manuscript requires that access be restricted, a facsimile reproduction should be the first order of business. It’s a shame that National Geographic, and its group of scholars, did not follow this sensible injunction.

I have wondered why so many scholars and writers have been inspired by the National Geographic version of the Gospel of Judas. I think it may stem from an understandable desire to reform the relationship between Jews and Christians. Judas is a frightening character. For Christians, he is the one who had it all and yet betrayed God to his death for a few coins. For Jews, he is the man whose story was used by Christians to persecute them for centuries. Although we should continue to work toward a reconciliation of this ancient schism, manufacturing a hero Judas is not the answer.

April D. DeConick, a professor of Biblical studies at Rice University, is the author of “The Thirteenth Apostle: What the Gospel of Judas Really Says.”

And this is the answer from her opponents:
